Masterstroke - As Days Grow Darker

Novo álbum dos finlandeses de heavy/power metal Masterstroke, banda que já foi comentada na "On the Road Webzine", e que acaba de lançar seu novo trabalho com o nome de "As Days Grow Darker".
Neste terceiro álbum, a banda continua a utilizar os seus riffs certeiros, nada muito pesado, mas um pouco mais pesado que a média das bandas do estilo, pois o som deles não chega a soar tão melódico quanto alguns conterrâneos.
Logo na primeira faixa "Wait For The Fall", os riffs certeiros e a bateria rápida se fazem presentes, aliados a um vocal correto. A segunda faixa "As Days Grow Darker" segue o mesmo estilo.
Aliás não há muita variação neste álbum, o que acaba por soar um pouco cansativo, e faz com que um cd de poucos mais de 40 minutos, dure uma eternidade, apesar dos bons momentos, esse ponto negativo acaba por comprometer um pouco a audição deste álbum.
Eu particularmente prefiro o debut a esse novo cd, o primeiro as músicas eram mais variadas, soavam até um pouco mais pesadas, e de mais fácil apreciação, não que esse álbum seja ruim, só não chega a empolgar.

Masterstroke - Sleep

O Masterstroke é mais uma banda vinda da Finlândia, um país cheio de lagos e cheio de bandas brotando por todo lugar.
A banda já teve em sua formação, o vocalista Jari Tiura (atualmente no Michael Schenker Group), isso em 2002 quando a banda foi formada, depois de alguma mudanças na formação, a banda atual conta com: Niko Rauhala - vocal/guitar, Markus Kekoni - guitar, Jussi Kulomaa - keyboard, Janne Juutinen - Drums e Marko Kolehnainen - bass.
O álbum "Sleep" é o terceiro lançamento da banda, lançado em 2007 na europa e agora em 2008 no Japão, contando com 2 faixas a mais em "Convicted" e "(IJust) Died in your Arms" cover da clássica música do Cutting Crew, mais um video making of do álbum.
Quando pensamos em Finlândia, alguns nomes vem a mente, geralmente no estilo metal melódico, mas a banda não é exatamente neste estilo, o som dele tem muito mais atitude, peso, eu diria que o som deles está entre Brainstorm, Masterplan (1º álbum), e um pouco de Morgana Lefay, tudo com muito bom gosto e precisão nos riffs, solos e teclados, simples, mas tudo muito eficientes.
Com essas característica a banda foge um pouco do clichê, inclusive no vocal, pois o que o vocalista faz de melhor é cantar, nada de gritinhos irritantes ou vocal melódico o tempo inteiro, o vocalista sabe soar agressivo e melódico quando a música pede, isso já faz da música do Masterstroke algo interessante de se conhecer.
Você poderá encontrar refrões bem colocados, teclado na medida certa, peso em algumas músicas, tudo aliado a uma produção muito boa, que ajudou muito no resultado final.
O álbum tem inicio com a excelente "Killing Creatures", crua, pesada e com o vocalista arrasando em sua interpretação, muito bom inicio. Na música "Under our Command" essa mais na linha Morgana Lefay, mais rápida, grande riffs e com um refrão bem legal, e esse estilo continua na ótima "Another Failure",e assim o álbum segue, sem muita variação, mas muito bom.
Um álbum muito recomendado, ainda mais em tempos de mesmice, mesmo não sendo o som mais original do mundo(aliás nada original), é um som muito agradável, bem executado e a banda sabe criar músicas cativantes.

Masterstroke is one more band coming from Finland, a place full of lakes and bands emerging everywhere.

When we think about finland some names come to mind, usually melodic heavy metal ones, but they are not exactly of this genre, their sound has much more attitutde, heaviness, something between Brainstorm, Masterplan (1º album), and a bit of Morgana Lefay, everything with a good taste, great riffs, solos and keyboards accuracy, all simple but effective. With these characteristics they escape from the cliché, including the vocals, what Rauhala does best is to sing, nothing of irritating yelling, or melodic vocals all the time, he knows how to sound agressive and melodic when is necessary, this is enough to make Mastertroke's music something that is worthy to know, and of course to listen to it. You will find well put refrains, proportional keyboards, heaviness in some songs, all allied to very good production that helped a lot in the final result.
The album opens with the excellent "Killing Creatures", raw, heavy, and a great vocalist's performance, a very good beginning. In the song "Under our Command" (a Morgana Lefay alike), faster, great riffs and cool refrain, and this goes on with the great "Another Failure", and as the album suggests without much variation, but very good.
A very well recommended album, moreover apathy, even not being the more ogirinal sound ever (alias nothing original) is very pleasant, well played and the band knows how to create captivating songs.
